History
Septik was originally formed in 1991. Long-time friends Sean Linke and JM, who had played together in previous bands, decided to start up a new band that focused on intensity and aggression. Both of them felt the time was right, and that their skills as musicians were up to the challenge.
A mutual friend of theirs, Christian Luongo, introduced them to guitarist and vocalist Christopher Lincoln, who was also looking to form a band in the same musical style. The trio got along well from the start and began writing material together.
Christian, who had been instrumental in getting the others together, joined about six months later, after being coaxed into leaving a former band. He was persuaded that Septik was more in line with his musical tastes and provided more of an arena in which to stretch his drum playing abilities. Septik as a complete band was born.
Dedicating themselves to creating a new breed of death metal, Septik stormed through the New Jersey underground scene, playing shows with many national and international headlining acts, getting radio airplay, and live on-air interviews at local radio stations. 1992 saw the release of their demo, Inception of Decay, showcasing their original and creative brand of music. Their philosophy was to take metal music one step further, adding complexity and musicality without losing any of the aggression. Inception of Decay is a testament to their efforts.
Throughout 1993 the band continued to expand their musical horizons. Newer material began to reflect this broadened attitude, making them into a live act to be reckoned with, often getting a more positive response from crowds than the international acts they were performing with.
By 1994 the band was ready to record another demo. Some studio work was recorded despite the fact that Sean left just weeks before the sessions were scheduled. Subsequently, Christian left the band to pursue other avenues in the music industry. Christopher and John decided to make the break-up final by ending the band officially, feeling that without the other two original members, the spirit was gone. Septik was dead... or was it?
In 2002, a full ten years after the release of Septik's first demo, Winterthorn released a digitally remastered 10th Anniversary Edition of Inception of Decay.
The original members of Septik reformed in late 2007, and they have entered the studio to record new material in the final months of 2008 for their next album, Grand Resurrection.
